Michael Mulligan has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing a two-year-old boy in a drunk driving collision while on probation for two
DUI convictions and awaiting trial on two other DUI arrests. Mulligan was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he ran through a red light and crashed into a SUV carrying two young children. According to the Orlando Sentinel while motorists tried to save the dying child, Mulligan sat on the road nearby drinking beer.
Mulligan’s blood alcohol content was 0.20 and at the scene of the crash police found empty beer cans and eight empty prescription drug bottles. Mulligan apparently complained about the damage to his truck and tried to blame the dying child’s mother for the accident. Following his release from the hospital the next day, Mulligan bought a six-pack of beer, refilled a hydrocodone prescription and proceeded to take a razor blade and cut his forearms nearly 30 times. He was charged with vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter shortly after that.
