Thanks to a call to the Pasco County Sheriff’s office, a mother of two was arrested on DUI charges after she was discovered to be driving drunk and high on Oxycodone according to police. Joie Cooper had her nine-year and ten-year-old children in her car with her when she was stopped following a tip that was phoned in telling deputies a woman was passed out behind the wheel of her mini-van.
Deputies found Cooper in a parking lot near U.S. 19. When they approached her vehicle she was slumped over the wheel and described as having slurred speech, being very lethargic and she was shaking as well. While talking to deputies the 36-year-old mother allegedly nodded off more than once. She later admitted to taking five Oxycodone pills within three hours of the traffic stop. She also later admitted to driving drunk. The reason she may have been passing out drunk at the wheel was a blood alcohol level of .225, nearly three times the legal limit.
Cooper was taken to Land O’Lakes jail were there were more problems according to TBO.com. The woman reportedly tried to swallow another Oxycodone pill. A deputy tried to remove the pill from the woman’s mouth but that resulted in Cooper biting the officer. That added to the Cooper’s troubles as she is also facing battery on a law enforcement officer charges. All told Cooper was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, DUI, two counts of child abuse, introduction of contraband into a detention facility and possession of paraphernalia for a straw she handed over to deputies at the time of her stop. That’s on top of the battery charge. Cooper had her bail set at $17,650.
