Florida DUI News – DUI Manslaughter Trial Ends In A Conviction Against A Port Charlotte Man

A North Port man has been found guilty by a jury of seven counts including DUI manslaughter and possession of Oxycodone and Xanax. He is facing up to 60 years in prison for the accident that killed a 7-year-old girl.

DUI Manslaughter Trial Begins In North Port

Ronald Judson Smith is on trial for eight charges stemming from an alleged drunk driving accident that killed a 7-year-old girl. According to police, Smith was driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI when he ran a red light and crashed into a Ford Mustang. Smith is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI with property damage, possession of illegal prescription drugs, driving while suspended, failure to submit to a breath test and other charges.

According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, witnesses to the fatal accident saw Smith throw beer cans and prescription bottles into the woods near the scene of the accident. The Port Charlotte man is facing up to 67 years in prison if convicted of all the charges. Sarah-Dian Heineman died 10 days after the crash.

DUI Manslaughter-Drugs Charges Filed Against Osceola Motorist After UF Examines Blood Sample

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement had chemists look at a blood sample from David Lanier following a deadly car accident in St. Cloud, Florida. The FDLE investigation led to DUI manslaughter charges being dropped as the tests could not determine the amount of cocaine in the driver’s system. That didn’t stop prosecutors from running another set of tests at the University of Florida and now they are filing new DUI manslaughter charges. The only problem is they can’t find Lanier now.

Florida Attorney Discusses DUI-Drugs

Police originally charged Lanier with the DUI charges as they believed he was impaired due to his cocaine use. Lanier admitted to using cocaine but he said the last time he took the drug was three days before the accident. A search of his car turned up marijuana, drug paraphernalia and syringes with coke residue. FDLE tests found cocaine and Xanax in Lanier’s system…

Drunk Driving Charges In Tavares Filed Against Wife Of City Mayor

A woman passed out behind the wheel of a running car turned out to be the wife of the mayor of Tavares, Florida and according to police she also turned out to be driving drunk. Sharon Nichols Wolfe was arrested and charged withleaving the scene of an accident and DUI after police found her passed out in her car in handicapped parking space outside of Florida Hospital Waterman.

According to reports, Wolfe crashed her Camaro into a speed limit sign and then took off. A witness called911 and that is when police located the woman passed out in the car some time after 5:00 a.m. Sunday. Police discovered a bottle of Kahlua and Bailey’s Irish Cream in the car. They also discovered Ambien in the vehicle. Wolfe had a blood alcohol level below the legal limit but allegedly told police she had combined the alcohol with the prescription drugs.

Orange Park DUI Checkpoint Nets 19 Arrests Saturday Night

A Clay County DUI checkpoint netted 19 arrests Saturday night. The Orange Park DUI checkpoint was set up on Wells Road and according to Clay Today, 360 vehicles were stopped. The 19 arrests included charges of drunk driving, illegal narcotic possession, carrying a concealed weapon and habitual traffic offenders. There were also three arrests for outstanding warrants.

One vehicle entered the checkpoint and then fled the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol tracked the car down and driver was charged with DUI, driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding. On top of the 19 arrests there were 12 moving violations assessed, 62 written warnings and 20 criminal citations according to the Clay County Sheriff’s office.

DUI And Marijuana Charges Filed Against Largo Elementary School TeacherAn art teacher at Southern Oak Elementary was eventually pulled over Wednesday for what sheriff’s deputies said were several traffic violations. Luann K. Fernandez did not stop when police originally tried to pull her over and according to TampaBay.com she sped up to elude arrest. She was eventually stopped when she pulled into her driveway and deputies caught up with her.
Once the woman exited her vehicle deputies asked her to perform field sobriety tests that she reportedly did and showed multiple signs of being under the influence. The woman asked if she could go inside her house and get a jacket at that point. Deputies reportedly were allowed to accompany her inside and that is when they found marijuana. She was charged with DUI, possession of marijuana and fleeing to elude arrest.

Drunk Driving Stop Leads To Marijuana Possession Charges Against Holiday Woman

A 21-year-old Holiday woman was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving when she ran a stop sign at 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Deputies approached the woman and could smell alcohol on her breath but that wasn’t the only thing they discovered. According to TBO.com Pasco County deputies found a green box with “Rebekah’s pot” written on it. Inside the box was apparently Rebekah Michal Tracht-Kader’s marijuana.

According to sheriff’s reports the box they found contained a substance that was later confirmed as marijuana. Deputies also reported the woman had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. She took a breath test and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.189 and 0.184. That came after she performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She was arrested and charged with marijuana possession and DUI.
