Florida DUI Checkpoint – The FHP Will Have A DUI Checkpoint Set Up IN Pasco County Friday

TampaBay.com is reporting that the Florida Highway Patrol will set up a Pasco County DUIcheckpoint Friday night from 7:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m. The Pasco County Sheriff’s office will join other law enforcement agencies in an attempt to arrest drunk drivers and drivers under the influence of drugs.

The checkpoint will be on U.S. Highway 41 and Hale Road. They will not only be looking for drunk drivers but also checking for drivers without proper insurance information or registrations. Drunk Driving Stop Leads To Marijuana Possession Charges Against Holiday Woman

A 21-year-old Holiday woman was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving when she ran a stop sign at 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Deputies approached the woman and could smell alcohol on her breath but that wasn’t the only thing they discovered. According to TBO.com Pasco County deputies found a green box with “Rebekah’s pot” written on it. Inside the box was apparently Rebekah Michal Tracht-Kader’s marijuana.

According to sheriff’s reports the box they found contained a substance that was later confirmed as marijuana. Deputies also reported the woman had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. She took a breath test and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.189 and 0.184. That came after she performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She was arrested and charged with marijuana possession and DUI.

Florida Woman Arrested For DUI While Dropping Off A Child Off At Port Richey Elementary School

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers responded to reports of a drunk driver who dropped a girl off at Chasco Elementary School in Pasco County. Lena K. Maki reportedly hit a car and then ran into a fence as she tried to leave the scene of the accident. She has been charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, child neglect and DUI with property damage.

Bay News 9 reports Maki was dropping off an 11-year-old girl on Monday. As she was pulling up to the school she hit another car and then tried to flee the scene. Troopers responded and Maki reportedly failed field sobriety tests. There were no injuries reported.

Pasco Woman Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison After Killing A Man Following Her Second DUI

Heather Dinson pled guilty to DUI manslaughter last month and left her fate in the hands of a Pasco County judge following her second DUI, which resulted in a man’s death. The judge sentenced the 35-year-old to 12 years in prison as he took into account her previous DUI conviction from 1995 as he contemplated her sentence on DUI manslaughter charges. He told her she should have learned from her first DUI and that she didn’t according to a story on TampaBay.com.

The charges stem from a 2007 crash on U.S. 301. Dinson was driving north in the southbound lane when she collided with Jason Hamilton’s 1979 Cadillac. Hamilton died at the scene and five other people were injured. Hamilton’s pregnant fiancé was in a car in front of him and held her future husband on the side of the road.

Shoppers At New Port Richey Target Store Alert Police To Drunk Driver

Shoppers at a local New Port Richey Target store noticed 59-year-old George Burnosky seemed intoxicated and when he left the store to get behind the wheel of his car people at the store alerted the police to a possible drunk driver. When Pasco County deputies arrived on the scene the Pasco man was asleep at the wheel with the engine running. After discovering an open bottle of Bacardi in his SUV, he was arrested on DUI charges.

Burnosky was found in the middle lane of the parking lot outside Target sound asleep and with what deputies thought were pink pills in and on his mouth according to a story on TBO.com. While the pills turned out to be breath mints, Burnosky admitted to drinking four rum and cokes and he was also on medication for his cholesterol.
