A North Port man has been found guilty by a jury of seven counts including DUI manslaughter and possession of Oxycodone and Xanax. He is facing up to 60 years in prison for the accident that killed a 7-year-old girl.

DUI Manslaughter Trial Begins In North Port

Ronald Judson Smith is on trial for eight charges stemming from an alleged drunk driving accident that killed a 7-year-old girl. According to police, Smith was driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI when he ran a red light and crashed into a Ford Mustang. Smith is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI with property damage, possession of illegal prescription drugs, driving while suspended, failure to submit to a breath test and other charges.

According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, witnesses to the fatal accident saw Smith throw beer cans and prescription bottles into the woods near the scene of the accident. The Port Charlotte man is facing up to 67 years in prison if convicted of all the charges. Sarah-Dian Heineman died 10 days after the crash.

DUI Manslaughter-Drugs Charges Filed Against Osceola Motorist After UF Examines Blood Sample

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement had chemists look at a blood sample from David Lanier following a deadly car accident in St. Cloud, Florida. The FDLE investigation led to DUI manslaughter charges being dropped as the tests could not determine the amount of cocaine in the driver’s system. That didn’t stop prosecutors from running another set of tests at the University of Florida and now they are filing new DUI manslaughter charges. The only problem is they can’t find Lanier now.

Florida Attorney Discusses DUI-Drugs

Police originally charged Lanier with the DUI charges as they believed he was impaired due to his cocaine use. Lanier admitted to using cocaine but he said the last time he took the drug was three days before the accident. A search of his car turned up marijuana, drug paraphernalia and syringes with coke residue. FDLE tests found cocaine and Xanax in Lanier’s system…

Drunk Driving Charges In Tavares Filed Against Wife Of City Mayor

A woman passed out behind the wheel of a running car turned out to be the wife of the mayor of Tavares, Florida and according to police she also turned out to be driving drunk. Sharon Nichols Wolfe was arrested and charged withleaving the scene of an accident and DUI after police found her passed out in her car in handicapped parking space outside of Florida Hospital Waterman.

According to reports, Wolfe crashed her Camaro into a speed limit sign and then took off. A witness called911 and that is when police located the woman passed out in the car some time after 5:00 a.m. Sunday. Police discovered a bottle of Kahlua and Bailey’s Irish Cream in the car. They also discovered Ambien in the vehicle. Wolfe had a blood alcohol level below the legal limit but allegedly told police she had combined the alcohol with the prescription drugs.

DUI And Drug Charges Filed In Pinellas Against Woman Who Ran Into An Amscot Building

Back in December Dina Bruemmer was seriously injured when she ran her car into an Amscot Financial building. Nearly two months later she has been arrested for DUI,driving with a suspended license, possession of Xanax and possession of Oxycodone. She was arrested Tuesday according to TBO.com.

The incident that resulted in Bruemmer’s arrest took place around 1:00 a.m. on December 28. Her Dodge SUV hit an Amscot but not before she ran over a sidewalk, through a few lots, a retaining wall and a utility pole. She also hit a palm tree.

Florida Man Who Admits To Taking Oxycodone And Sleeping Pills Is Charged With DUI

Marion County deputies have arrested a man on DUI charges after they found him asleep at the wheel of his car . Antonin Kanka reportedly told police he had taken Oxycodone and sleeping pills as reported on the website of WFTV. Deputies claim Kanka failed field sobriety tests at the scene of the arrest and once again at the jail.

Deputies responded to a call of an erratic driver Friday evening and that is when they discovered Kanka asleep behind the wheel of his car at an intersection. The 56-year-old allegedly slept through several light cycles.

Field Trip Ends With School Bus Driver Being Arrested For DUI

A school bus driver who ran a red light, hit a pole and had bloodshot eyes was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Police were alerted to the school bus driver by a chaperone who was on the bus with 15 Pittsburgh high school students during a field trip. The bus driver took part in field sobriety tests and a drug recognition expert felt the man could have been under the influence of a controlled substance.

Brian Dunlap was arrested and charged with 15 counts of endangering the welfare of children, DUI and two counts of recklessly endangering another person according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. The field trip was designed to take the students out for a day of service and then to the Carnegie Science Center.

Florida Woman Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Killing Pedestrian While Driving Drunk

Jennifer Staebell is experiencing the harshest scenario when it comes to getting behind the wheel of a vehicle and driving while intoxicated. The 37-year-old was convicted by a jury of DUI manslaughter and has now been sentenced to the maximum prison term, 15 years behind bars by a Marion County judge according to a story on the Bradenton Herald’s website.

The jail stems from a February 2008 incident when Staebell was driving with a mix of cocaine and prescription drugs in her system according to prosecutors. While under the influence she struck and killed a pedestrian named Robert Hill. Staebell’s attorney asked the judge to suspend her sentence so she could care for her two children but that request was not honored.
